A great honour
I am honoured and delighted to have been elected as Leeds West’s MP. I am determined to be a strong voice for our community, in Leeds and in Westminster – because I love living here and believe I can make a real difference.
I have very big shoes to fill. John Battle has been a dedicated servant for Leeds West as MP since 1987. In that time he was a government minister and a tireless advocate for our area, and a hugely respected force. It has been a privilege to work with him as Labour’s candidate in Leeds West, and it will be a privilege building on his hard work.
Of course, the national result is yet to be determined. Whichever benches I sit on in the House of Commons, I will be a representative for Leeds West first and foremost. I will fight for a fair economic recovery that doesn’t hurt the people who didn’t cause the economic crisis, for better transport links across our area and for the best possible public services.
I look forward to working with the 10 Labour Councillors that represent our area as well. I was delighted to see a clean sweep of 4 victories for Labour in Leeds West local elections, and hope Leeds Council can be wrestled back from Tory/Lib-Dem control.
We have entered a period of practical transition. I will be available for anyone who needs support whilst I update this website and set up a constituency office – please get in touch – email Rachel.Reeves@leedswestclp.org.uk or phone 07788 441 345.
I aim to be entirely transparent, and part of that is letting people know what I am doing. I will be sending monthly updates via email – if you want to receive this update please let me know.
Thank you again for electing me in Leeds West – don’t hesitate to get in touch!
