Chancellor's visit
Chancellor Alistair Darling spent the day in West Yorkshire today. Included in his schedule was a visit to the Leeds Building Society. Unlike many banks, Leeds Building Society has come through the recession in good health and as well as meeting the board and business leaders in Leeds the Chancellor joined Rachel in the branch on Albion Street to meet staff.
Rachel said: "Financial and business services are key to our economy in Leeds and we need to ensure that investment and jobs stay in our region – the roots out of the recession will be local and regional, not driven by London or the Square Mile."
