A month of festivals
By Rachel on Jul 31, 2008 | In Welcome
July is my favourite month in the West Leeds calendar.
Starting the month with the I Love West Leeds Festival at Armley Mills organised by Interplay and part of a two week festival of all things west Leeds. A roller disco, book swap, ice-cream van entertainment and a drive in cinema - truly something for everything. Congratulations to Jane at Interplay, Lady Mayoress Emma and everyone else involved in the fortnight of fun.
I Love West Leeds was followed on its heels by the Kirkstall Festival (sunny weather as usual), and a day of morris men, a beautiful church service in the Abbey ruins, football matches and live music. Kirkstall Festival has been running for an amazing twenty eight years - thanks to the organising committee led by John Liversedge and Ken Stratford - another day to remember.
The Bramley Carnival - with bike stunts and the Carnival Queen, the Carnival is in it's second revival year. After a muddy 2007, the weather held out this year, with a fantastic day out for all the family. Thanks to Terry and the team for a successful day.
The Armley Moor Fun Day rounded up this July extravaganza. With fantastic food - courtesy of the Mosque, Temple and Armley Helping Hands - not to mention coffee from just coffee people we were well looked after. The numerous stalls - representing groups like the Healthy Living Network, Sustrans and the West Leeds Debt Forum offered helpful advice on a range of issues. The Armley Common Rights Trust and especially David and Hazel deserve all our thanks for making the Fun Day, well, such fun.
